Student Tech Clash

Innovate with us.

On November 10th.

At Politecnico di Milano.

Sala conferenze DEIB, Ed 20

Reply and BEST Milan together again!

Pilot a steel factory simulator, create a better transport system for a crowded city, design applications that may help deafblind people in their daily life. These are just a few examples of topics that can be addressed in the Student Tech Clash!

The competition

Throughout the length of the competition, you and your teammates will have to imagine an innovative solution to the issues raised by the topic, creating a digital presentation to be submitted to the jury.

What are we talking about?

A practical challenge involving both collaborative and engineering capabilities. The skills that are mostly requested nowadays to a graduate student approaching the workforce are the abilities to work in a team and the maturity and flexibility to overcome unexpected situations, even the ones that are not related to his or her field of interest.

Architects, engineers and designers are not supposed to know mnemonical notions learnt during their academical courses, however the ability to apply fundamental concepts to real life scenarios and the working environment.

Engineering competitions are activities known as “complementary education”, events that BEST organizes in order to allow the students of the Politecnico di Milano to develop these skills in a different environment outside the lecture halls.

In this competition dozens of students, set up in teams of four, find themselves facing a previously unknown and problematic situation. where personal opinions can be put into discussion and different skills from the members of the team must be exploited to successfully develop the best solution to the problem.

The rules

The competition is structured as follows: first, you will receive a task and a presentation of the problem you are going to face. Later, you will have a few hours to discuss and work out the best solution to the problem given to your team. During the competition each team will have free access to a laptop (you have to bring your own device), with which you can freely use Internet connection. Finally, your team will create a presentation about the solution, that will be evaluated.  The jury will be composed of company’s and BEST’s representatives. They will choose the winning team, evaluating not only the idea, but also several factors, including team spirit and many others that will be explained the day of the competition.
